Flyin’ High Records is proud to have the Orchestra back on the tracks with their long awaited and much anticipated debut album finally hits the stores. Scallymatic Orchestra has been a growing force on the Dutch (nu-)jazz scene ever since they started out in 2000. This album captures the spirit of eight years of playing, and contains compositions written throughout that period.Their fresh mix of jazz with soul-, funk- and 70s fusion grooves has a distinct modern sound with a slight retro touch, which may be described as The Scallymatic Sound. With catchy grooves, cool themes, enough room for improvisation and a good dose of suspense, the band convinces with both club crowds and the discerning listener. Scallymatic Orchestra plays original composition by guitarist/bandleader Mathjis Duringhof.The group’s name and the album title hardly do this one justice — as the record’s a really jazzy little effort that has plenty of niceness to offer! Most of the instrumentation is live — played by a combo that includes trumpet, saxes, flute, guitar, keyboards, bass, and percussion — and the tunes are partially club jazz numbers, and partially tracks with a straighter jazz feel — numbers that kind of take on some of the recent Schema groove, but get a little bit warmer, thanks in part to the guitar, and the lack of any rhythm programming. 4 of the album’s 11 tracks have vocals.....taste HERE.....zero (by soul seduction)

Accompagnato in questa sonorica avventura da DJ Merlin, Matt Brandau (bass), Mark Wells (keys) Daniel Hart (strings) e da interessanti ospiti vocali...Yahzarah and Raheem DeVaughn irresistibili sull'ultima track.Non è facile taggare un progetto cosi'...trattasi di un mix di hip hop, jazz, R&B, soul and electronica che ha inoltre il pregio di far avvicinare a Davis anche chi non lo conosce......enjoy HERE....zero.

raro ed interessante lavoro di un gigante dell'hammond, John Patton, raro perche' inciso nel 1968 ma edito solo nel 1995 per la Blue Note, ed interessante perchè lo troviamo nella sua migliore forma espressiva accompagnato da bravi ed onesti lavoranti Vincent McEwan (Trumpet) Harold Alexander (Flute and Tenor Saxophone) George Edward Brown (Drums) Richie Landrum (Conga); Il groove è sicuramente ed inequivocabilmente 60' soul jazz con qualche incursione modale....interessante ....HERE....zero

come gia' vi avevo detto non amo molto le compilation di artisti vari se non mixate....ready to use, come sottofondi alle serate di cazzeggiamento vanno benissimo.....anche se non le considero veri dischi oohps....CD, in ogni caso.....sono stato attirato dal fatto che questa che vi vengo a sottoporre è il frutto di una joint venture fra la mitica Acid jazz Rec e la Long Lost Brothers Rec., entrambi inglesi.....patria del genere acid...che ci regalano queste 13 tracks semisconosciute che faranno la gioia di qualche volenteroso DJ.....enjoy HERE....zero

Tetsuo Sakurai is best known for his work with Casiopea and Gentle Hearts releases featuring Greg Howe & Dennis Chambers. Kenji "JINO" Hino (son of famed Japanese trumpeter Terumasa Hino) is best known for his contribution to the Japanese fusion band TKY and is the newest member of Fazjaz. Guest players on this cd include the one and only Dennis Chambers on drums (7 tracks), FUYU, drums (1 track), JOSEI, keyboards (3 tracks), Penny K, keyboards (1 track) & Masa Kohama, guitars (2 tracks). fresco fresco dalla scena underground londinese ecco qua un bel dischetto di debutto per il duo Smoove & Turrell fuori per la Jalapegno Rec. da solo un tre\quattro giorni; dopo aver spiazzato un po' tutti con il loro buon singolo ecco qua che ci omaggiano di altre 12 traks + un remix del sopracitato "I can't give you up". Che dire....grasso funky, stomping anni 60', dusty soul.... un mix di polverosi riff ben conditi da moderne lavorazioni break beat.....non male ad un primo ascolto, oserei un "discretamente radiofonico".....Taste it HERE....zero

Welcome to the new and relaxing but also adventurous dope beat ambient trip hop funk soul experience by the two great germans Oliver Bondzio and Ramon Zenker.For the new album “The Cheerleaders Are Smilin’ At You” they engaged the fabulous upcoming female Jazz and Soul singer Bella Wagner from Vienna who gave her warm, soulful voice of high contrast to the 11th track of the album. The other support on this record is the 24 old DJ, turntablist and producer DJ Rafik. The six times DJ-World-Champion, part of the Lordz Of Fitness Crew and the “Cosmic Delivery Project” gave his extraordinary scratches to the tunes number 5 and number 13 of the album giving them a touch of weird funkyness. The diversity of this album is also supported by the artists Jen, who is part of different bands like Rabbit In Red, Boyracer or Possum Moods and the Iran born and London based MC Blade, who supported Eminem and recorded one of the best selling Hip Hop Albums in the UK with his partner and producer Mark B. Moreover the hungarian female singer Virág is joining the collective. Her voice appears in tracks that found their places on compilations released from labels like Plastic City or Shayan Music. There are also own releases on the label Karmatronic. In Hungary she worked in the underground scene and trained her voice in genres like Jazz, Soul, Rock and Latin.
On this album the collective presents sounds and moods between Trip Hop, Downbeat, Soul, Funk, Acid and Electro in a mixture that brings high comfort to the listener but furthermore the possibility to explore great music with wonderful quotations and a relaxed music experience....HERE part1 and HERE part2.....zero

Phuturistix è un progetto inglese di un duo di musicisti Zed Bias e DJ Injekta (Dave Jones e Sefton Motley) che opera nel genere broken beat, questo "Feel it out" CD del 2003 per la Hospital Rec. è il loro debutto dopo un paio di EP.....qualche feuturing di spicco, vedi Atjazz e qualche voce femminile con tendenze al soul, e le 14 tracce dell'album scivolano via....qualche pezzo indubbiamente piu' radiofonico attirera' gli avventurosi Dj......., in ogni caso da ascoltare.....HERE....enjoy ....zero

Zero the Hero

Ahh, cari, buoni, vecchi Gong....., sempre pronti a farci viaggiare con le loro vibrazioni cosmiche e le loro incredibili e visionarie storielle di mondi ultraterreni ed extragalattici… "Zero to infinity", tutt’ora ultimo lavoro che mi risulti dei Gong, è il quinto capitolo della saga dell’ormai leggendario Zero.

In "Radio Gnome Invisible Part 1-the flying teapot" (1972),il primo capitolo, il nostro eroe entrava in contatto "radio-telepatico" con Radio Gnome, che lo iniziava alla conoscenza del Pianeta Gong; in "Angels Egg" (1973) Zero viaggiava sul pianeta ed incontrava i suoi strani abitanti (Pot Head Pixies, Octave Doctors…), tornando poi carico di nuove idee festivaliere e conoscenze spirituali; in "You" (1974) Zero teneva il suo festival sull’Isola di Everywhere in attesa dei messianici Octave Doctors; la promessa di un nuovo livello di conoscenza da parte di uno sciamano metropolitano animava il più recente episodio "Shapeshifter", (1992), nel quale Zero si avviava a viaggi fisici e mentali fino a morire misteriosamente in Australia per rinascere, senza corpo fisico, pura essenza spirituale.

Una band con il dono di una spettacolare fantasia ed immaginazione… "Zero to Infinity", oltre a rappresentare il nuovo approccio della comunità anglo-franco-australiana al terzo millennio, aggiunge un ulteriore tassello all’epopea del simpatico Zero, ormai puro spirito, privo del suo corpo: la sua esistenza virtuale si rivela vantaggiosa e foriera di intriganti incontri con strambi e allegorici personaggi (Magdalene, Diana e Witch Yoni, Mad Monk e The Gongolope…). La formazione del 2000 è schierata a sestetto: la coppia Daevid Allen e Gilli Smyth, palesemente invecchiati nel corpo e nella mente ma immutabili Sir Capucino Longfellow e Shakti Yoni; gli onnipresenti Mike Howlett e Didier Malherbe (Lorde Tonsil of Aplomb e Bloomdido Bad De Grasse…); i nuovi acquisti Theo Travis (ottimo sassofonista nonché Theophilus Acidopholus) ed il drummer Chris Taylor (Professor Paradox). Che bella combriccola. L’album altro non è che un classicissimo spaccato di fervida fantasia alleniana, con una band che riprende i classici canovacci della prima metà degli anni ’70 (great!) per tirarli a lucido con ritmi e sonorità moderne e, al solito, ipnotiche ed estranianti. Nulla di eccitante o straordinariamente nuovo, la band non fa altro che regalarci una riedizione del più classico suono gonghiano, letteralmente inventato una trentina d’anni fa: si parte in quarta con Howlett e Taylor che macinano ritmi cadenzati e profondi, sui quali gli "space whispers" di Gilli e la "glissando guitar" di Daevid si incrociano alla grande ,tra onnipresenti influssi orientali e spirali fiatistiche di Malherbe (stavolta un po’ troppo in disparte) e del nuovo acquisto, davvero ottimo, Travis. Dopo la "fanfara" d’apertura ("Foolefare") e l’eccentrica "Magdalene" la band dà il meglio di sé con "The Invisibile Temple", un lungo ed ipnotico space/funky rock come solo loro sanno fare. Alcuni brani sono ulteriori e contorti rigurgiti "patafisici" alleniani, vedi "Zeroid" e la gustosa "Bodilingus", altri sono tocchi di poesia come spesso la band è stata capace ("Wise man in your heart"), altri ancora pure evocazioni di smarrimento cosmico ("Yoni on Mars"). "Mad monk" è deliziosa nel suo incedere bizzarro e nell’eccentrica interpretazione alleniana, stralunata e surreale è "Damaged man"; lieve ed avvolgente il finale con la coppia "Tali’s song" ed "Infinitea", quest’ultima innervata da fibrillazioni reggae/dub degne degli eredi Ozric Tentacles. La presenza di Travis, sassofonista colto e preparato, nonché valido polistrumentista (avremo modo di parlarne a lungo con i suoi lavori solisti), è sicuramente un valore aggiunto di tutto rispetto, che arricchisce i lunghi e dilatati episodi con tocchi di classe. Peccato che altri grossi pezzi dell’ingranaggio storico non ci siano più, mi riferisco a Steve Hillage e allo straordinario Pierre Moerlen, ormai, da anni, proiettato su coordinate esclusivamente soliste. Se da una parte si colgono l’importanza e l’influenza della band su artisti come Porcupine Tree, Orb, Memoria Zero ed Ozric, dall’altra fa tenerezza vedere la foto di gruppo con Allen e la Smyth invecchiati ..... Ahh, cari, buoni, vecchi Gong…HERE....enjoy.....zero

la zera, ovvero my sister, mi allunga una buona ricette x una torta da delirio gastrico, che ho gia' avuto il piacere di mangiare ma anche di cucinare per gli amici.....ovvero la mitica torta al rum....regina dei gozzovigli...not for kids.(parental advisory)

PROVARE PER CREDERE!!!!

Un pugno di noci tritate grossolanamente
1 scatola preparato per torta margherita (ingredienti secchi)
una busta budino alla vaniglia
3 uova
120 cc acqua
120 cc rum
120 cc olio di semi (possibilmente mais)
burro e farina per ungere la teglia
Glassa: 60 cc rum, 100 gr burro, 200 gr zucchero
- Scalda il forno a 180 gradi
- ungi la teglia a ciambella di burro e spolvera di farina. Elimina la farina in eccesso
- spargi le noci tritate sul fondo.
- Prepara la torta: in una terrima metti il preparato per torta, il pacchetto di budino, le uova, olio, acqua e rum. Mescola bene tutto quanto
- Versa il tutto nella teglia
- cuoci per 45-50 minuti (controlla la cottura con lo stecchino e gira la torta di quando i quando se il forno non scalda uniformemente).
10 minuti prima che la torta sia pronta prepara la glassa, che deve essere pronta appena la torta esce dal forno.
- Unisci il burro ammorbidito, lo zucchero e il rum in un pentolino, fai sciogliere a fiamma media mescolando continuamente
fino a che lo zucchero e' sciolto. Fai sobbollire piano al massimo un minuto o due.
-togli la torta dal forno e comincia a versare la glassa lungo la circonferenza esterna e quella interna, dando il tempo che si assorba.
Resisti alla tentazione di buttare la glassa sulla torta, che se no diventa tutta moscia. Continua a versare la glassa fino ad esaurimento.
- Lascia riposare la torta per 20 minuti.(cut and paste from the original mail).

Papa Grows Funk is a funk band from New Orleans, Louisiana. The band was started by frontman John "Papa" Gros early 2000, developing from a series of Monday night jam sessions helmed by Gros at New Orleans’ Maple Leaf Bar. Gros would invite some friends down to play, and the jams became a common band for a handful of musicians, including guitarist June Yamagishi, sax player Jason Mingledorf, bassist Marc Pero and drummer Jeffer “Jellybean” Alexander, who now make up Papa Grows Funk. This "Mr.Patterson Hat" is their last work dated 2007; full power of south funky with some jazzy elements.....try HERE.....enjoy ...zero

Jestofunk, the cream of Italy’s fantastic IRMA Records, is here for you with another album of their own potent stew of electronica, jazz, and funk. For those who haven’t heard the group, it’s best to start with Love in a Black Dimension, as this serves as a better introduction to the Jestofunk credo and style; long-time fans most likely have had this album before its (finally) U.S. release and knew what to expect. Universal Mother is neither better nor worse than its predecessor; it seems to be more of a continuation of the first album…play them back-to-back to hear what I’m saying. The group has expanded its sound a bit, but there really isn’t much room for improvement here, only small refinements, as Jestofunk was already at the top of its game. Once again, the group serves up some of the finest jazz-dance music around…you could call them acid-jazz, I suppose, but Jestofunk is so much more than that. Great horns (Fred Wesley returns!) and beats....HERE and HERE.....zero

in questo "Rome after midnight", primo disco del nostro per un'etichetta non italiana, di cui vale la pena accennare circa la nascita; La Sound Hills, etichetta jazz giapponese molto attiva in patria - e sappiamo quanto i giapponesi siano particolarmente amanti di questo tipo di musica - ha richiesto a Sergio Veschi, patron della Red Records, di produrre un disco fatto da musicisti italiani per il mercato nipponico. Così messi assieme i 3/5 del High Five Quintet (il leader, Scannapieco e Tucci), aggiunto Massimo Moriconi - contrabbassista esperto ed espressivo già con Bosso in progetti quali Four for jazz - e completato il tutto con lo statunitense Mike Melillo, Veschi si è trovato per le mani un gruppo con il quale affrontare, in due sessioni di registrazione a Roma, una serie di brani classici come da unica condizione posta dai committenti, che - ne sono certo - hanno apprezzato il risultato. Ciò che ne ha ottenuto è un disco compatto ma dinamico ed espressivo, in cui il quintetto produce fin dalle prime battute un jazz sanguigno e propulsivo che, riproponendo la tradizione, si basa soprattutto sullo swing, sull'alternanza tema/assoli e sul costante scambio di battute tra gli strumenti....enjoy....HERE....zero

What more can you ask for compiled by two specialists in the genre of the jazzy dance .Veteran Giles Peterson and West Germany’s finest mixmen Jazzanova.Side 1 is more traditional with classics including Donald Byrd, Roy Haines,Mark Murphy to John Coltrane, this is classic Giles Peterson’s colection. Disc 2 is Jazzanova’s cutting edge choice of nu jazz grooves remaining pretty cool sleek and downtempoe with choice offerings featuring Two Banks and four a classic from japan’s UFO and 4 hero offering my favourites. Whatever your choice of jazz there should be something here for you whether it’s the grooves and base of Roy Haines , or the seductive Horns of Coltranes Equinox or the laid back jazz electronica of 4 hero. Even if you are one of these people who instantly say: I don’t like jazz! Because if that’s the case I’m sure you’ll be crossing over once you’ve heard this collection of kings.Forget the dodgy CD cover just listen to the content.All told this is a wonderful exploration of jazz and jazz offshoots, boasting an eclectic (for sure) batch of tracks, a selection of smart, alluring music to drift through for a while......HERE part.1 and HERE part2......zero

Individually they have performed and recorded with many prominent musicians in the field of jazz and blues; and although they have been playing together since 1992, they officially formed the co-led group in 2000 and have recorded three albums. If Lonnie Smith considers himself "the doctor of groove," then Mama Wailer is certainly his doctoral thesis. This 1971 record was only the second of Creed Taylor’s Kudu productions and, surprisingly, the only Kudu or CTI session Lonnie Smith ever participated in. But the record has become a jazz-funk classic; one of the rarest of rare grooves and still highly sought after by young dancers and DJs alike.....a must have....HERE....zero

He can be defined as a pioneer DJ in the field of dance music, where since latest 70’s he worked in, playing in many small clubs in Perugia until arriving to work in a famous dance club, where he played from 1975 to 1998 funky, disco and afro music, influencing the formation of many famous house music DJ’s. In 1998 he understood that he was having enough of that “contaminated” ambient, and so he decided to work by himself opening a recording studio and putting into music his idea of dance philosophy. Two years later his first album “Housin’ Paradise” was printed and published by Irma Records, having a certain success and opening for Maurizio many new opportunities to work as a DJ also playing in many foreign countries. His sets range from Tribal-Trance, Nu House, Nu Jazz. In latest years with his lp’s, singles and rmx he contributed to the increase of the world dance music scene.....enjoy HERE and HERE....zero

Fragmentorchestra is the couple of Italian jazz lovers Luca Pernici & Giulio Vetrone. The result is a beautiful and up-tempo album of moods and grooves for some autumnal bliss. For Luca and Giulio, Jazz also means improvisation, which Luca Pernici explains. “A musician, in the moment at which improvisation occurs, is irrationally set free from any approach, creating a philosophy of composition without any given time or place”. The goal is just this, to preserve an improvised approach through breaking down beats and notes but still achieving the variety of an orchestra or better yet, a Fragment Orchestra…;) enjoy HERE....zero

the Blue Note debut of the High Five Quintet — an Italian combo we’ve really grown to love, and who sound especially nice in this setting! High Five are a more jazz-oriented version of some of the groups you might hear on club jazz labels like Ricky Tick or Schema — a tight combo with a really strong rhythmic sensibility and a great ear for soulful solos — but one who’s equally adept at more gentle moments too. There’s some really great groovers on the set — the kind of upbeat modal numbers we really love — but the mellower tunes are great too, and show a warmly lyrical side of the group, with a depth that recalls 60s genius on Blue Note. Players include Fabrizio Bosso on trumpet and flugelhorn, Daniele Scannapieco on tenor, Luca Mannutza on piano, Pietro Ciancaglini on bass, and Lorenzo Tucci on drums — and titles include “Evan’s Even”, “Pandaguru”, “Cosi Com Sei”, “Ojos De Rojo”, “Estudio Misterioso”, “Nino’s Flowers”, “Naty”, “Inception”, and “Five For Fun”......HERE....zero

with the latest album „cruisen“ the Thomas Siffling

Trio (Markus Faller drums / percussion, Jens Loh upright bass) presents a delightful easy going Nu Jazz with a high musical ambition and substance. In short: a young and contemporary German Jazz and music to relax, groove and feel good! The sound spectrum of the CD is amplified by the Hungarian vocalist Veronika Harcsa with her sonorous and sensual voice and by the master of electronic keys Xaver Fischer. Another highlight on the CD are the remixes created by Club des Belugas and Jelly Jam. But why the name “cruisen”? After being successful with the last trio CD “kitchen music” with all the wonderful recipes corresponding to the music, it was clear to Siffling to continue with the concept. So the concept of “cruisen” was more than reasonable to him, as Siffling is a car enthusiast and driver of a sports car. Nati nel 2000 grazie a Jean-Luc Prosperi, alias Dj Rubio, membro della band latin-underground Cormano y el su Grupo, i South Froggies esplorano il mondo di nu jazz ed elettronica. Il gruppo è anche composto dal giovane dj francese sulla cresta dell'onda Alan Parker Lewis, da Colonel Nico, chitarrista della band reggae francese Poupa Claudio negli anni '80, e da Christophe Guiraud, più noto come Mr. Cheb, che si era fatto notare sin dai tempi del conservatorio a Marsiglia dove è stato premiato come miglior musicista jazz. Dopo aver partecipato a numerose compilation, tra cui anche il best seller "Saint Germain Café vol. 1", nel 2005 la band dà il benvenuto a William Davood, un virtuoso giovane sassofonista capace di apportare al gruppo il suo fantastico talento e le sue profonde influenze di jazz classico. Mentre molta della musica elettronica prodotta ai nostri giorni sembra essere obsoleta sin dalla sua nascita, in "Nu Jazz Factory" possiamo sentire qualcosa di veramente nuovo che attinge all'esperienza dei giganti del jazz. Ideale per allietare l'atmosfera di casa o per dare un po'sollievo all'i-pod, l'album scorre sensuale tra ritmi ed atmosfere jazzy con beats guidati dalla potente linea di basso. Il risultato è irresistibile: classe pura.......HERE...zero

"Soulstance" è un progetto firmato dai fratelli Lo Greco, che con il loro quartetto vantano una delle sezioni ritmiche più calde ed affiatate del panorama musicale italiano. I due fratelli si sono costruiti una solida fama internazionale grazie a dischi sempre molto apprezzati dagli intenditori. Caratteristica della band è la grande capacità di coinvolgere nelle tessiture improvvisative il pubblico. "Soulstance" presto diventa un progetto molto richiesto in tutto il mondo realizzano cinque albums e numerose collaborazioni con molti artisti dell area chillout e nu jazz per la Schema record.Questo e' il loro primo disco risale al 99....roba dell'altro secolo......;)....HERE ...zero

altra simpatica produzione della Groove Attack Rec., che stavolta premia il sound dei Dynamics, collettivo multietnico e multinazionale di stanza a Lione che secondo un trend che non sembra conoscere alcuna crisi in fatto di fruizione nè in Francia (area di operatività principale del combo) nè in Germania (sede della Groove Attack e di uno dei principali supporter del disco, la nota casa d'abbigliamento urbanwear e streetwear tedesca Carhartt!!!!!). Non è difficile capire il motivo per cui i loro 7" hanno venduto migliaia di copie in tutto il mondo, ascoltando le vibrazioni diffuse fin dalla presentazione del Dynamic Sound nella breve intro esplicativa: pochi fronzoli, un sound immediato che spesso si traduce in un soffice boogie, profondamente impiantato nelle roots reggae-dub, ma con la giusta quantità di funk soprattutto sul piano ritmico-percussivo, un'apprezzabile coralità e un'evidente sincronia d'esecuzione e - nonostante questo Version Excursions sia una raccolta di cover che prende in prestito motivi molto noti di personaggi molto diversi del pop e del rock - una ragguardevole personalità stilistica, marchiata dalla volontà e dal vizio (!) di dinoccolare groovettini ipnotici e molto sollazzevoli.....insomma roba per Dj incalliti e fumosi con il pallino del clubbing alternativo.....HERE...zero

E Roy con il suo stabile quintetto, da non confondere con l'altro suo progetto, gli RH factor, sceglie la strada di quel bop contemporaneo di cui è un indiscusso maestro e protagonista, e del quale Earfood, l'ultimo suo lavoro del 2008, resterà senza dubbio come un capitolo memorabile. trumpeter and Chicago jazz-scene fixture Corey Wilkes has played with everyone from the Chicago Art Ensemble to DJ Logic to Wynton Marsalis to the Exploding Star Orchestra. DROP IT, Wilkes's 2008 solo effort, displays the young lion's musical range, encompassing post-bop, loungy groove and light funk (not to mention a cover of the Nina Simone classic "Funkier Than a Mosquito's Tweeter"). While DROP IT may not exhibit Wilkes's more adventurous side (as he's displayed in plenty of free-jazz contexts), it does make for a sweet, contemporary jazz set that sounds smoothly......enjoy HERE.....zero

Tuomo (born as Tuomo Prättälä, 1979).Is a soul-singer, jazz pianist, composer, lyricist and producer from Finnland; Mr. Gilles Peterson, the most famous and influential DJ and broadcaster in the world, has been a big fan of Tuomo’s since the first single "Don’t take it too hard" . The song was for long included in Gilles’ MySpace player. Tuomo's new album "Reaches Out For You" was released February 4th.2009......and like other artist I'have posted, here in Italy is a perfect unknow, what a better occasion to taste his funky soul groove......HERE....zero

cosi si descriveva Michael Brecker uno dei piu' bravi ed influenti sassofonisti U.S.A degli anni 80'., fondatore di un mitico gruppo, forse da noi un po' sottovalutato, gli Steps ahead, insieme all'amico Mike Ranieri, e mancato un anno fa di sindrome leucemica....siccome tempo addietro ne stavo parlando con un amico ecco che mi scappa la voglia di un post e sono andato a pescare negli archivi della zerodimension qualcosa .......l'omonimo album del 1983, il terzo per l'esattezza....enjoy.....HERE....zero

Band Cult degli anni 70 ascrivibili al genere funk e r&b (negli ultimi anni). I loro successi sono tra i pezzi funk più ballati e più caratteristici della musica anni 70 e vi ritroviamo le sonorità tipiche in puro stile "New York" tuttora ricercate dai vari producer dal sampling facile.... Pur avendo iniziato assieme già nel 1972 la band si forma come B.T. Express nel 1974 con l'acronimo che sta per Brooklyn Trucking. Il loro esordio è fulminante! Sparano in classifica (8 settimane primo negli USA) "Do It 'Till You're Satisfied" seguito da "Express". Inutile dire che rappresentano due capolavori (specie il primo) della produzione funky di sempre. Quando il funky cominciò a scricchiolare e i gusti del pubblico girarono verso qualcosa di meno rude (spesso i B.T. Express andarono incontro a censure per i testi non certo politically correct...) anche i B.T. si adattarono suonando sempre meno il loro inconfondibile sound e si spostarono verso l'R&B dove non ottennero un uguale successo regalandoci però dei pezzi di ottima fattura. Ascoltate per esempio "Does It Feel Good" uno straordinario pezzo che rappresenta in pieno l'R&B di prima data che non ottenne, a mio parere ingiustamente, il consenso delle vendite e qualche anno fa riportato alla luce dalla cover dei Phat & Small ("Feel Good" come ricorderete)........indispensabili nella raccolta personale di un cultore della musica anni 70! ...HERE....zero

"Grits is a Native American corn-based food common in the Southern United States, consisting of coarsely ground corn" (Wikipedia), ....non nel nostro caso in quanto trattasi di primo lavoro di questi inglesi di Brighton per la Freestyle Records, assieme dal 2005 il duo formato dal chitarrista Stuart ''Countryboy'' Carter and Nick ''The Organiser'' Harris alle tastiere assieme a un bassista e a un batterista " James e Johnny" (oscuri side man!?) danno vita a un quartetto fotografia di altri tempi....una bella cover dei The Soul Drifters 'Funky Soul Brother', il pezzo hit "Boom Boom"...insomma trattasi di modern funk ruvido quel che basta....strumenti veri....niente sample....mi verrebbe quasi da dire Lo-fi.....be giudicate un po' voi....HERE...enjoy, zero

The king

Bluesman Albert King was one of the premier electric guitar stylists of the post-World War II period. By playing left-handed and holding his guitar upside-down (with the strings set for a right-handed player), and by concentrating on tone and intensity more than flash, King fashioned over his long career, a sound that was both distinctive and highly influential. Albert King is on top form throughout this album. which was recorded live at the Fillmore Auditorium on June 26, 1968. His solos are piercing and intense. The band is great, but King steals the show. His funky,earthy version of Herbie Hancock's classic "Watermelon Man" is a great example of the great man's guitar technique. In fact, the whole album is a display of some of King's best fretwork. The tracks are taken from the same dates as his "Live Wire/Blues Power" album, and the album contains some outtakes from those dates....enjoy HERE....zero

The original Charles Ford Band from Ukiah, Northern California was completely dedicated to making genuine 100% blues-based music.The Charles Ford Band were ground breakers in blues, and were one of the most influential West Coast blues bands beginning in the early seventies. The late Charles Ford, and his sons, Patrick, Robben, and Mark have contributed immensely to blues music for many years now. There have been many variations of Ford blues bands, and a large chunk of great American blues music has been created by the great Ford clan. "Hotshots"is a no frills, unpretentious blues album, arranged by Robben Ford, with good Ford compositions, and some great covers. There are elements of "swing" blues, and R&B on the album, and if you like your jazz, listen to Gary McFarland's "Pecos Pete" which borders on fusion. Great stuff!....enjoy HERE....zero
