trumpeter and Chicago jazz-scene fixture Corey Wilkes has played with everyone from the Chicago Art Ensemble to DJ Logic to Wynton Marsalis to the Exploding Star Orchestra. DROP IT, Wilkes's 2008 solo effort, displays the young lion's musical range, encompassing post-bop, loungy groove and light funk (not to mention a cover of the Nina Simone classic "Funkier Than a Mosquito's Tweeter"). While DROP IT may not exhibit Wilkes's more adventurous side (as he's displayed in plenty of free-jazz contexts), it does make for a sweet, contemporary jazz set that sounds smoothly......enjoy HERE.....zero
